Ingredients
This bang bang shrimp recipe has three components: the shrimp, the sauce, and the keto-friendly breading.
Keto-Friendly Shrimp Breading
For the crunchy coating, I use crushed pork rinds. They make a perfect lower-carb breadcrumb alternative. It is important to use unflavored pork rinds so the coating remains neutral.
I make a batter out of an egg and heavy whipping cream. This helps the crushed rinds stick properly to the shrimp, or you can use buttermilk instead.
I season the coating with grated parmesan and garlic powder to add some flavor.
This all creates a great imitation for a common panko blend used on bang bang shrimp.
Sugar-Free Bang Bang Sauce
Is a sweet and spicy bang bang sauce hard to make? Absolutely not!
At first, you will need a base, which will be mayonnaise, and after that, you will be adding chili garlic sauce (or Thai chili sauce) along with some sriracha to give it a kick!
To get all the flavors to pop, a bit more salt will work wonders. Also, people like to add a bit of lime juice to the mixture.
This will work as a fantastic shrimp dip, especially shrimp that has already been cooked.
If you want a sweet taste, there should be a sweet chili sauce included, however, you may already have a sweetener substitute already.
Shrimp
This should be obvious, but we will need some cooked shrimp in order to make bang bang shrimp!
We will want to get/remnant about a pound of large shrimp, peeled, and deveined. Be sure to leave the tails as those will be used to grab the shrimp with ease. Although, you may not want tails at all, and that’s totally fine as it will just give you one proper bite.
Green onions should be used to add some color and to make the meal more nutritious.

Tips
Make the bang bang sauce in advance. It speeds things up when cooking and you can use the extra sauce for other dishes.
Fry the shrimp in any keto-friendly oil you like. Olive oil works well, and avocado oil is another great option. Choose shrimp that are already deveined to save prep time.
Instructions
This simple bang bang shrimp recipe just about has a few parts to it. You essentially prepare the sauce, fry the shrimp, and combine the two together!
Prepare the Crunchy Bang Bang Sauce
If you’ve done so already, prepare the keto bang bang sauce from a separate bowl. If you would like it to be a bit spicier, increase the amount of sriracha you add. After doing so, please simply set it aside as you will pour the sauce over the shrimp later.
Prepare and coat the shrimp
After that, you will begin to prepare the shrimp by peeling and deveining them if they aren’t already done so. Afterward, in a separate bowl, mix the heavy whipping cream, the egg and the dry ingredients together in another bowl that happens to be fairly shallow.
From there, the process of coating the shrimp begins. You start by dipping the shrimp into the wet ingredients, after which you should place the shrimp into the pork rinds mixture. Be sure to properly cover the shrimp as it will result in the mixture acting as breading.
Fry the shrimp
On medium heat, begin to heat the oil in your skillet, after which you place the shrimp into the pan. You should fry the shrimp until they are properly cooked and lightly browned from both sides.
If done properly, the shrimp will appear to have a lovely golden brown color to them.
As soon as you’re ready to eat, pour some bang bang sauce over the crispy shrimp. You can eat right away!
Serving Suggestions
This crispy keto bang bang shrimp pairs perfectly with other Asian-inspired dishes.
Start the meal with a warm bowl of creamy keto Thai coconut soup. Its rich, fragrant flavors are a great way to get your taste buds ready.
Add keto sushi rolls on the side. They are even better with a drizzle of bang bang sauce on top.
An easy Thai chicken salad is another great option. It comes together quickly and shares many of the same bold flavors as the shrimp.
To finish, serve keto cauliflower fried rice. It is a reliable, flavorful side, and the spicy bang bang sauce tastes incredible spooned over the cauliflower rice.
FAQs
How many net carbs are in bang bang shrimp?
There are just 3 grams of net carbs in this yummy recipe, most of which are in the breading and sauce.
Can you freeze this bang bang shrimp recipe?
Yes, bang bang shrimp can be frozen. You just have to fry them, let them cool, and then put them in a single layer on a baking sheet before putting it in the freezer.
After the shrimp has frozen, you can keep them in a freezer-safe food storage bag for 6 months.
Can you make this with pork, chicken or steak?
Yes, you can coat pork chops, chicken strips, or even chicken legs with the same breading and bang bang sauce. Just not steak, in my opinion.
Can Thai sweet chili sauce be used in bang bang sauce?
The only caveat with Thai sweet chili sauce is that it is on the sweeter side, but I prefer chili garlic sauce for that reason.
If you prefer sweeter flavors, you can always add your favorite sugar substitute to the sauce.
Can I make this keto shrimp in the air fryer?
Yes, this keto bang bang shrimp works great in the air fryer. Many people prefer it over deep frying, and there is no need to deal with excess oil afterward. Once the shrimp are prepped, gently coat them in the pork rind mixture. Place them in the air fryer and cook at 350°F for about 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through for even cooking.
